The Conflict - an Easter Drama
"The Conflict" retells the events of the last week of the life of Jesus. It also portrays a spiritual conflict between the forces of God and evil and how they might have impacted those events.
The purpose of this particular approach to the Easter story is multiple.
We intended to keep the traditional story as our central and foremost theme. The message of Easter is that of Jesus Christ betrayed, crucified, buried and resurrected. His sacrifice, in payment for our sin, as a bridge to God, is the paramount message that we want to communicate.
The secondary purpose was to reveal a plot-behind-the-plot, so to speak. We are all familiar with the passion story. However, few in our audiences ever contemplate the very real spiritual influences, which affect our lives and the lives of those who played a part in the first Easter. Care was taken to not 'glorify' this aspect of the script and so diminish the main emphasis of our theme.
With regard to our characters, we tried to create them with qualities and traits that would be both believable and personable. We wanted the audience to be able to 'buy into' real people with whom they could identify through their humor, pain, successes and failures.
If you decide to present this drama it is recommended that you implement additional prayer covering for your cast, crew, church and staff. Know that your adversary, the Devil will be prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him and stand firm in the faith.
